Wanted: physical (mask) performer
We are a mask theater group and perform 'off-stage' at outdoor theater festivals. We perform among the audience, in the public space. We believe that theater does not take place between four walls or on a stage, but close to the audience. It happens between the people on the street. There we find the ingredients for our improvisations, with the audience and the location itself. In this way we turn the world around us into a theatre. For the public and with the public.
Tom, Tom & Tom
Our main act consists of a performance in which the audience follows three very elderly characters through public space; Tom, Tom & Tom (trailer). From our publicity text:
“Tom, Tom & Tom turn being older into a blessing. The three elderly men are still too young to give up, and instead celebrate life together. Energetic and full of creative inspiration, the triplet move through the audience that starts to follow from scene to scene. The three old men turn squares into a yoga class, crawl in lampposts, find themselves in (im)possible positions and interact with the bystanders in full improvisation. And the good news: the audience may join in!”
For our performances we use physical acting techniques from modern mime, mask performing and clowning techniques. We are directed by Craig Weston (De Primitives, BE) and we perform in the Netherlands, but more often abroad. We previously performed at De Karavaan (NL), MUT Festival (SP), Chaoyang Festival Beijing (CH), Kleines Fest (DE), Rues et Cies (FR) and other festivals in the Netherlands and abroad.
Wanted
For 'Tom, Tom & Tom' we are looking for a physical performer (m/f/other) to complete the team. To this end, we are organizing an audition-workshop on July 19. In a 3-hour workshop by mask-theatre teacher Jorn Laponder we like to see if we are a match.
What we offer:
- A friendly, collegial and non-hierarchical team to hit the road with.
- Performances at the better outdoor theater festivals
- An annual (mask performance) training from our director
- Artistic direction over the performance(s), a lot of freedom for personal input.
- A (market-based) compensation for the performance and travel days
- Short tours to interesting foreign festivals with possibility to stay longer
- Hotel stays and food during performances abroad.
What you can offer:
- You graduated as an actress/theatre maker/theatre teacher (m/f/other) or have comparable practical experience.
- You are a physical performer, you know how to express your creative ideas physically in improvisation.
- You have a great ability to improvise and are a star in teamwork.
- Experience with mask performance and clowning is an advantage.
- You are willing to travel for performances at home and abroad.
- You are available for short tours from a few days to about two weeks from mid-May to mid-October and in December. Also in the spring and autumn regularly one day on the weekends.
- Being available during the warm-up day on August 11 and our mini-tour to the Baltic Sea (D) from August 25 to 29 is an advantage.
- A driving license and/or means of transport is useful, but not necessary. To keep our footprint as low as possible, we travel abroad as much as possible by train.

Gezocht: fysieke (masker)speler
Wij zijn een maskertheatergroep en spelen ‘off-stage’ op buitentheaterfestivals. We spelen tussen de mensen, in de publieke ruimte. Wij geloven dat theater zich niet tussen vier muren afspeelt of op een podium, maar dichtbij het publiek. Tussen de mensen op straat gebeurt het. Daar vinden we de ingrediënten voor onze improvisaties, bij het publiek en de locatie zelf. Zo veranderen we de wereld om ons heen in een theater. Voor het publiek en mét het publiek.

Voor onze voorstellingen gebruiken we fysieke speltechnieken uit de moderne mime, maskerspel- en clownstechnieken. We laten ons regisseren door Craig Weston (De Primitives, BE) en spelen in Nederland, maar vaker over de grens. We speelden eerder op De Karavaan (NL), MUT Festival (SP), Chaoyang Festival Beijing (CH), Kleines Fest (DE), Rues et Cies (FR) en andere festivals in Nederland en daarbuiten.
Gezocht
Voor ‘Tom, Tom & Tom’ zoeken we een fysieke speler (m/v/anders) om het team aan te vullen. Hiervoor organiseren we op 19 juli een auditie-workshop. In een workshop van 3 uur door maskerspeldocent Jorn Laponder kijken we graag of we een match zijn.
Wat wij bieden:

- Korte tours naar interessante buitenlandse festivals met mogelijkheid om langer te blijven
- Hotelovernachtingen en eten tijdens buitenlandse optredens.
Wat jij kan bieden:
- Je bent afgestudeerd als actrice/theatermaakster/docent-theater (m/v/anders) of hebt vergelijkbare praktijkervaring.
- Je bent een fysieke speler, je weet je spelideeën fysiek uit te drukken
- Je hebt een groot improvisatievermogen en bent een ster in samenspel.
- Ervaring met maskerspel en clowning is een pré.
- Je hebt de bereidheid om te reizen voor binnen- en buitenlandse optredens.
- Je bent beschikbaar voor korte tours van enkele dagen tot ca. twee weken van half mei tot half oktober en in december. Verder in het voor- en najaar regelmatig een dag in de weekenden.
- Beschikbaar zijn tijdens de inspeeldag op 11 aug en onze mini-tour naar de Oostzee (D) van 25 t/m 29 augustus is een pré.
- Een rijbewijs en/of vervoersmiddel is handig, maar niet nodig. Om onze footprint zo laag mogelijk te houden reizen we zoveel mogelijk met de trein naar het buitenland.
